The Law Students' Association represents every JD student at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law.
We're a student-elected team working to make law school more connected, more supported, and more enjoyable, both inside and outside the classroom.
MEET THE TEAM
PRESIDENT
Mahnoor Khan
Hi everyone! I'm Mahnoor, and I'm honoured to be serving as your LSA President this year.
I was born in Pakistan and grew up in Ontario, where I completed my HBSc in biology, neuroscience, and psychology at UofT. I moved to Edmonton in January 2024 and have been involved with the LSA since the start of my law school journey, first as the Cohort 3 Rep (still the best cohort) and then as VP Communications last year, where I worked on refreshing our digital and physical presence so students could stay connected with everything happening at the LSA.
Those two years gave me a close look at what students need more of, from better support for clubs to stronger mentorship and academic resources. I'm bringing those lessons into this year and working with an incredible executive team to make sure what we offer students is better than ever. Along the way, I'm focused on building each of these initiatives sustainably so that the progress we make this year keeps growing for years to come.
Outside of school and work, you'll usually find me painting or taking photos. Art is still my favourite way to spend my free time, and I love experimenting with new mediums and design tools!
I'm so grateful for the chance to serve this community, and I'd love to hear from you. If you have ideas, questions, or concerns, or just want to chat, come say hi when you see me around!
VP GOVERNANCE
Julnar Jaber
Hi all, my name is Julnar and I am your VP Governance this year! It sounds a bit nerdy, but I am genuinely excited to build sustainable and efficient systems for the LSA and ensure our constitution reflects the needs and philosophies of our student body.
When I’m not in class, you can catch me camping, taking film photos or editing videos from my camcorder, and hanging out with my friends and family! A fun fact about me is that I am named after the flower of a pomegranate in Arabic.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions (law school-related or not) or just say hi if you see me around!
VP FINANCE
Geethma Jayathilake
Hi everyone! I’m Geethma, and I am very excited to be serving as your VP Finance for the LSA this year.
I am originally from Calgary and have a BSc in Psychology from UBCO. Over the past few years, I’ve really enjoyed combining my interest in finance with my love of connecting with people through my work in the philanthropy sector. I am looking forward to applying the skills I’ve developed through my work and previous leadership experiences to keep our LSA finances running efficiently and transparently.
Outside of law school and work, I enjoy catching up with friends over food, going to local shows and concerts, travelling to visit friends across Canada, and listening to podcasts. I am also part of several book clubs, and I’m excited to be serving as one of the VPs for the UofA Bookclub this year!
Please don’t hesitate to say hi if you see me on campus, I am always happy to chat. :)
VP COMMUNITY
Robyn Starko
Hi!! My name is Robyn, I am a 3L and am your VP Community for 2026-2027! I am excited to use my role to bring law students together so that they can build meaningful connections and friendships! 🫶🏻
In my free time I love to travel and attend music festivals. 🪩 I also have two cats, named Willie and Meatball, who I like to take for walks in their pink stroller. 🐈 And recently I ran the Seawheeze Half Marathon!
If you see me in the hallways, don’t be shy! 🩷
VP ACADEMIC
Stephen Cook
Hi, I’m Stephen and I am your VP Academic for 2026-2027. My job is to advocate for your law school success so be sure to seek me out with any concerns you might have.
In the past, I was a journalist. In the future, I want to work in public law. In the present, I am watching the reality show Married at First Sight (the Australian version). I like to think it helps me better understand my father’s culture.
A fun fact about me is that my father is Australian.
VP SPORTS & WELLNESS
Siobhan Scantland-Heartt
Hi! I’m Siobhan (it’s Irish and pronounced like Shi-vawn) and I am your VP of Sport and Wellness this year!
I’m excited to help students de-stress this year! Whether by getting your blood pumping and joining an intramural team, or getting crafty at one of our wellness workshops, I hope to host events that remind you of the importance of looking after yourself while in law school.
Outside of the classroom, I play ringette, rebind books and crochet! I also like to hike, nordic ski and go rollerblading with my dog Lucy (pictured).
I hope to see you all around campus! If you see me, don’t hesitate to say hi :)
I’m from St. Albert, AB!
VP EVENTS
Alisha Dhanani
Hello! I’m Alisha, and I look forward to meeting y’all at the various events the LSA is hosting this year.
Attending LSA events has easily been a highlight of my law school experience. It is where I’ve connected with so many wonderful people. I cannot recommend getting involved enough for anyone looking to build lifelong friendships and cultivate unique experiences during their time here!
As your VP Events, my goal is to make event planning a truly collaborative experience ensuring that your ideas, interests, and feedback are reflected in our calendar.
Having lived in the DR of Congo, Kenya, India, South Korea, the US, and now Canada, I find it hard to pick just one place when asked where I’m from. I have spent enough time in each country to give me plenty of stories to chat about almost anything!
I’m always down to try something new, whether that is artistically, physically, mentally, or gastronomically. 🙂
VP JEDI
Armann Singh
My name is Armann Singh and I am the VP JEDI.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce from MacEwan University. I’m a born and raised Edmontonian and due to geographical location an Oilers fan. However, my heart belongs in Toronto with the Raptors and Drake. Last year I was in the top 0.05% of Drake listeners. I strongly oppose any slander that he did not win the Drake v Kendrick beef.
I am excited to bring a balanced perspective to this role and have the opportunity to listen and support others!
Please feel free to reach out if you ever see me in the hall or anywhere in the city.
ILSA REPRESENTATIVE
Mercedes Belcourt-Rothe
Hellooo! I am Mercedes, the Indigenous Law Students Association [ILSA] Rep for the year. This is my 3rd year on the LSA [can’t get enough woo] and am excited to serve as the liaison between ILSA and the LSA. I hope to facilitate community and advocate for Indigenous students!
I am in 3L. I am originally from Grande Prairie but have spent the past 12 years of my life in Calgary and Edmonton.
Outside of law school I enjoy playing soccer and keeping active! I also love watching movies and yapping into the void about them on Letterboxd.
If you see me around, say hi!!!!
